Boost social mobility by helping upReach to support 2,500 students per year by 2022

Why Donate?

Thank you for your interest in making a donation to upReach. All the money that is donated goes towards our work supporting high-achieving students from less-advantaged backgrounds to access the top professions. Research shows that non-selective state schools educate almost 90% of the population, yet account for only 30% of those on graduate schemes at some top employers.

More young people from disadvantaged backgrounds than ever before are going to university, but when they graduate, they are less likely to secure a graduate job, particularly in the most competitive sectors. Since 2005, the proportion of students eligible for free school meals that enter university has increased from 15% to over 25%. However, at Russell Group universities, less-advantaged students who get a first class degree are less likely to secure an elite graduate job than their more privileged peers who only get a 2.2. Such roles on competitive graduate programmes at leading firms act as the gateway to a successful career.

The explanation is an Employability Skills Gap, whereby at school, those from less-advantaged backgrounds have inferior access to professional networks, career advice, extra-curricular activities and work experience. upReach work to close the employability skills gap.  1,500 students are currently supported through the upReach personalised programme of employability development, and we aim to support 2,500 students per year by 2022.

Partner with upReach to fund specific events or cohorts

Are you interested in making a big impact on social mobility? There are opportunities to fund specific events such as an upReach Bootcamp for 25 to 40 students, or to provide an upReach Scholarship that would fully fund a cohort of 10 students from a specific university or career sector. Further details can be found here or email olivia.reeve@upreach.org.uk.

Give as you Earn

Another possible way to make regular donations to upReach is via payroll. Ask your finance/HR team if your company operates the payroll giving scheme, and if so, just let your employer know that you would like to start giving to upReach and the donation will automatically be taken from your pay each month.
