John Craven has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of upReach

The upReach Board of Trustees is delighted to announce that John Craven has been appointed as the
charity’s new Chief Executive, and will take up position in January 2016.

Under John’s leadership upReach will continue in its mission to support outstanding undergraduates from
less-privileged backgrounds to secure top jobs, working in partnership with universities and employers.
upReach has ambitious plans to grow over the coming years, and aims to grow our network of partners and
work with more students. John’s appointment is a major step towards realising this ambition.

John has a unique background across the private and public sectors, including eleven years in investment
banking and three years as a secondary school teacher at both state and independent schools. John is
passionate about social mobility, having witnessed first-hand the obstacles that prevent many of those from
less-privileged backgrounds getting top jobs. He is excited to be joining upReach and we are confident that
he is the ideal person to take the organisation forwards.

Deborah Joseph is standing down as Interim Chief Executive at the end of 2015, having been part of the
team since the charity’s inception. Deborah’s tenacity and drive have helped upReach grow from an idea to
being a highly effective organisation that has already made a huge difference to the lives of many young
people from less-privileged backgrounds. The trustees are enormously grateful for her contribution over the
past few years and wish her the very best for the future.

These changes follow the decision by Henry Morris, the charity’s Founder, to pursue a new business
opportunity. John’s appointment enables us to embark on our future under new leadership and building on
the considerable achievements to date.
