North Highland and upReach partner to improve social mobility

upReach and North Highland are delighted to announce a new partnership seeking to tackle the issue of differential progression of graduates into top professions based on their social background.

In a year-long program, North Highland will lead four “sprints” throughout 2018. These volunteer efforts will enable upReach to accelerate its growth and increase its impact as the charity enters its sixth year.

The “sprints” will focus on areas including addressing nationwide social mobility cold spots and engaging upReach Associates in the social mobility conversation through University Societies. North Highland’s philanthropic strategy is centered on economic empowerment which the Firm delivers through volunteerism, campaigns, and formal philanthropic pilots.

upReach helps students raise their aspirations, develop key employability skills, and succeed in securing professional work experience. Students receive one-to-one support following a personalised career action plan, including skills training on campus and via live video forums, mock interviews, a mentor from a top employer, Insight Days, unique work experience opportunities, free online resources including practice tests, and much more.

Employee-owners at North Highland will volunteer their time and expertise to improve the employability of upReach Associates through ‘action days’, which will be focused on providing insight to consultancy and working on business challenges with Associates.

Additionally, North Highland will undertake fundraising activities to support the upReach programmes, which provide professional development for undergraduates from less-advantaged backgrounds. North Highland’s support for the upReach programme exemplifies a commitment to open up top UK professions to a wider pool of talent, and is a positive stride in the right direction for greater social inclusion.

John Craven, Chief Executive of upReach, said of the partnership: “We are delighted to be working with North Highland who through their support and commitment to social mobility will be able to offer upReach expertise and guidance with tackling important forthcoming challenges.”

Sarah Power, Vice President at North Highland commented: “We are thrilled to be working with upReach as the North Highland Charity of the Year for 2018. Helping students reach their potential is a truly inspiring goal. We are excited to be contributing to such a great cause.”
